If you have the Perfectionist Pattern, you try to do everything perfectly. You have extremely high standards for your behavior and especially for any products you create or performances you are asked to do. With this pattern, you may find that upcoming writing projects, reports, papers, or presentations cause you a great deal of anxiety because you are so concerned about completing them perfectly. You may consistently feel that your work isn’t good enough and that it must be improved, even before anyone sees it.

You may judge yourself with harsh words, thinking that your efforts are “stupid,” “lazy,” or “sloppy.” You may hold these beliefs regardless of what other people say to the contrary. You may feel that you cannot produce anything unless it is “perfect,” even if no one else is going to see it.

A Perfectionist Pattern can also show up in concern over your appearance. You may believe you must be impeccably groomed and behave with perfect etiquette in all situations. You might strive to keep a flawlessly clean and beautiful house, and even a perfect family.
