In an Interactive IFS Group, people explore their reactions to each other and the group. They work directly on how they are relating to the other group members in the moment. The group leader helps to establish group norms of awareness, honesty, vulnerability, safety, and caring. Often two people are interacting with each other about how they feel toward each other in the moment. Each person will be exploring what parts of them were triggered by something the other person said. They may also work on their relationship. A person might work on their feelings and reactions to the group as a whole. Click here for more information on Interactive IFS Groups. I have found that Interactive IFS Groups can be very successful even when they are conducted entirely through the internet by Zoom.
In this course, you will be trained in how to lead an Interactive IFS Group. This will include didactic presentations about principles and techniques of group leading drawn from my book Interactive Group Therapy. The training group will also function as an Interactive IFS Group, so you will experience what it is like to be a member of this kind of group. We will learn by reflecting on what happened in the group, how I lead it, and the interventions I used. You will have an opportunity to lead the group under my guidance. Those students who are already leading groups of this nature can receive consultations on your groups.
I have been leading Interactive Groups for 35 years. I am currently revising my book Interactive Group Therapy to incorporate IFS and other advances in my knowledge of group leading since it was originally written. You will receive these chapters as I write them. I have been teaching experiential courses on IFS for 20 years.
If you complete the training, you will receive a certificate of attendance. I may be able to help your practice by referring people to your groups. A few people may even lead groups through our Self Capacities organization.
